Research and Consultancy Units was formally established at the Institute on 30th March 2006. The need for the units dates back to 1992, following requests from a large and wide range of individuals and corporate clients. The clients sought services in the areas of research, training needs assessment, in-house training and advisory services in the human resource management field.
The Institute responded to the requests and provided the required services quite effectively, but in a rather individualized and haphazard manner. It was felt that establishment of the units would address the needs of our clients more co-ordinately and professionally.
In addition, organisations in the international arena, and particularly in Kenya, have come increasing under pressure to restructure their systems and re-engineer their operations. The main drivers of these needs for change have been new demands from customers for quality service and providing value for money. In the Public Sector, in particular, there have been urgent needs to change perceptions of government employees towards recognizing that institutions have no choice but to wake up to the calls of efficiency and effectiveness.
It is in the light of this scenario that GTI, Mombasa found it prudent to set up this units with the aims of coordinating research and management consultancy activities of the Institute and marketing the Institute’s programmes and facilities.
